Max Shearer (23) grew up in Brisbane, and has always been very connected to music. Max first began playing cello at six, before moving to piano.

Max has a deep interest in contemporary music, and in exploring how the experience of engaging with the tension introduced through modern composition techniques can allow audiences to access different ways of understanding. Max’s love for contemporary music began in 2020, when they discovered how the challenging works of composers such as George Crumb, Charles Ives and Kaija Saariaho could express emotions in ways more vivid than words or any other music could.

Max is currently undergoing a philosophy degree, and has an enormous love for running.
