Finn Idris
Violin, Electronics, Composer
Finn Idris (aka Insula, Borg Queen, and other monikers) is a Melbourne-based composer, electronic producer, and multi-instrumentalist whose work spans experimental IDM, electro-acoustic composition, and immersive audiovisual performance. With more than a decade of professional violin/viola chamber experience and advanced techniques developed across violin, viola, piano, and guitar, Finn fuses classical craft with cutting-edge electronic production.
A graduate of the Conservatorium van Amsterdam (Master of Music with High Distinction), Finn has released four albums with the acclaimed Steeplejack label and numerous singles and extended plays with Denmark’s Janushoved and other European imprints. Recent highlights include Insula, a solo IDM/trap project integrating live resynthesis and electric violin, and Helcarax, a major collaborative work with Alex Raineri.
A self-taught technologist, Finn integrates Max/MSP, BlazePose, neural-sensor arrays, and modular synthesis to build interactive systems that blur the line between performer and audience. They have composed soundtracks for interactive media (including the isometric shooter Kill Knight), large-scale installations at Denmark’s IT University, and numerous independent theatre and AI-film projects.
Beyond performance and composition, Finn is an emerging mastering engineer, currently expanding a Dutch & Dutch 8c based facility featuring class A conversion and the latest software topologies for a variety of technical applications and genres.
